After noticing his sudden discomfort during their discussion over dinner, Mameng (Ces Quesada) checks her brother, Rudy (Joey Marquez), in his bedroom and brings the supplies she needs to clean up his gunshot wound. Although Rudy is initially hesitant to let her tend to him, Mameng persists and discovers that his wound is already swollen and turning black.
Just as she is about to inform Gabo about his condition, Rudy is forced to finally tell her the truth. He confesses that he has gambled away the money Gabo gave him earlier that day. Hoping to double the money, he tries his luck, only to lose everything in the end and find himself unable to afford his medicines.
This, of course, enraged Mameng, as she'd witnessed how gambling destroyed his life and his family in the past. Instead of covering him as his sister, Mameng chooses to tell Gabo the truth. Furious upon learning that Rudy has squandered the money he gave him, Gabo confronts his father. Even though he's mad, Gabo can't resist helping his father and still hands him P4,000 for his medicine, as well as an additional sum for the repair of their roof, which he entrusts to Mameng.
As Mameng and her husband, Dante (Julio Diaz), go out of their house to ask the friends of Gabo to buy Rudy's medicine for them, the father and son are given chance to talk in private. Rudy profusely and sincerely apologizes to Gabo for what he has done.
He reminds his father that life has been difficult for them lately, which is all the more reason for him to stay away from things he knows are wrong. More importantly, he tells Rudy that he should
have prioritized his own well-being because he knows how much his father means to him—and he cannot bear the thought of losing him, too. Rudy is reminded of the wrong decisions he has made in the past, including relying on luck to give his family a comfortable life—a choice that ultimately contributes to the tragic death of Gabo’s mother, Belinda (Cristine Reyes).
Gabo clarifies that he is not angry at Rudy for losing the money, but for neglecting himself and putting his own life at risk. Moved by his son’s words, Rudy tells Gabo how blessed he feels to have him as his child. He also says that the woman Gabo eventually marries will be lucky to have him, as he is certain that Gabo will become a loving husband and a devoted father to his own family someday.
In the emotional, quiet moment that follows, it is not only Rudy who expresses his regret and apologies, but also Gabo, who's already on the verge of tears.
