“Rainbow Rumble” most certainly gave audiences another happy-go-lucky episode last February 28 with some of the unforgettable heartthrob performers of the ‘80s youth-oriented variety show “That’s Entertainment,” comprising Jovit Moya, Brylle Mondejar, Migui Moreno, Ronnel Wolfe, and Cris Villanueva.
On top of taking in the nostalgia-filled moment of their eagerly awaited reunion as well as indulging in hilarious banter and skits, their ever-charming ensemble also rejoiced in the opportunity to pour out volumes of inspiring wisdom that they have gained in their golden years.
Much of their heartfelt words touch upon their realizations upon reaching their 50s and 60s, particularly with finally taking life easy, matured patience, having a fun-loving mindset, prioritizing health, and living their best lives as they learned from past mistakes.
When asked about not reaching the jackpot round, all answered with content smiles, jumpstarted by Migui, who also conveyed that he felt light-heartedly dismayed as he was almost winning over Jovit and Cris. He also showed excitement, mentioning that he’d be delighted to participate in the game some time again in the future.
Ronell, who stayed on the first tile, remained cheerful throughout the rounds, cheering on his former co-artists. For Brylle, who was the first pointer, he echoes the sentiment of Migui, thinking he could’ve done more, but notes that as he nears the victory-defining tiles, the complexity of nervous emotions gets to him.
Next up was Cris, who was among the frontrunners that would expertly respond to multi-genre identifications. He also voices the thoughts of Migui and Brylle over missing the winning points but ultimately focuses on how the game allowed him to see and gleefully bond with his old friends.
About the hardest part of the game, Migui laughingly spotlights the tricky bugtong query about chocolates, while for Ronell, it was the showbiz-related ones, as he currently is not extensively updated on the entertainment scene.
Brylle speaks about the mental pressure as a player, remarking that the stress due to a natural surge in feeling competitiveness would often render him restless. Cris then gets to the specifics, particularly the need to be swift in swiping the sensors. He cites co-player Jovit’s tactic of immediately taking the floor despite not fully hearing the game’s question.
In recounting lessons they learned on the field, most of them emphasized how crucial it is not to be stressed. Migui adds on to this by naming attentiveness and a calm temperament as the must-haves in order to avoid mental blocks.
The rest follows Migui’s insights, most especially in relaxing and living in the moment. Brylle also states the reality of being a “Rainbow Rumble” player: “Iba ‘pag ikaw ‘yung nanonood. Iba rin ‘pag ikaw ‘yung nakatayo [dito].”
Jovit, who emerged as the rally winner among the gentlemen, then expounds on how he supposedly prepared for the game, underscoring that it wasn’t really the kind wherein one should intently train for. With his enthusiastic personality, he mostly viewed the experience as a reunion—this was genuinely shown with how he thoroughly enjoyed the back-to-back tile breaker rounds with Cris and Migui as well as the “Atras Power” segments headed by the same duo.
Finally naming the moments he enjoyed the most, Jovit indeed chose the tile breakers, kilig skits with Negi, and playful banter during the time of his fellow players using their “Atras Power” on leading scorers. He was truly a refreshing sight to see, as he even danced when he received the “Lucky Tile” over a basketball trivia.
“We gotta do it again!” Jovit exclaims.
