The timeless beauties of 80s variety show “That's Entertainment” made a mini reunion in the March 14 episode of “Rainbow Rumble.” Joining our Pambansang Host Luis Manzano and Ka-Rambol Negi were Donita Rose, Sharmaine Arnaiz, Maffi Papin, Regina Grace, and Rita Avila—bringing nostalgia and star power to the stage.
From the warm reunion, the spotlight quickly shifted to competition as the Rumblers rallied their way to the top. Maffi started the game strong, prompting Rita and Regina to use their ‘Atras Powers’ against her. Despite the close attempts from the rest, Maffi won the “Rally to the Top” round and advanced to the “Rainbow Reveal.”
On how they felt about not reaching the jackpot round, Sharmaine Arnaiz admitted that playing was not easy at all. “Kahit na swipe naman ako nang swipe, sometimes it's luck din talaga and speed,” she said. Regina Grace, meanwhile, shared her disappointment, joking, “Masyado kasing mabilis si Maffi.” Rita Avila, however, chose to look on the bright side, saying it was fine since she was able to clinch a consolation prize at least.
As for Donita Rose, she confessed that she never really felt she was going to win in the first place. “Para sa akin, nanalo na ako sa jackpot round dahil nakita ko na lahat ng mga kasamahan ko sa ‘That's Entertainment,’” she expressed. Still, she conveyed that the game was nerve-wracking, something different from the usual feeling of simply watching an episode of “Rainbow Rumble.”
Looking back on the toughest part of the game, Sharmaine pointed to the swiping mechanic as her struggle in clinching a chance to answer. “Parang hindi ako makausad dahil hindi naman ako gaanong kabilis mag-swipe,” she said, a sentiment echoed by Rita. Regina, however, felt differently, saying it wasn’t that hard. “Intindihin mo lang mabuti ‘yung questions. Hindi naman siya mahirap, nakaka-enjoy lang.” Donita reflected on how she sometimes overthought her answers, but remained proud of herself for having fun while playing.
As for the lessons they took away from joining “Rainbow Rumble,” Sharmaine emphasized, “Kailangan mas maging competitive at ‘wag sore loser.” Regina highlighted the importance of focus and speed in both swiping and answering, a lesson Rita also shared. Donita, meanwhile, stressed the value of staying calm, “You have to be relaxed. Sometimes ang number one kalaban ng pagsagot is ‘yung kaba mo.”
Reflecting on her victory in “Rally to the Top,” Maffi Papin doted on the importance of fairness. “All is fair in the game, because magkakaibigan naman kayo. Anybody, kahit nasa likod ka, you could reach the front anytime kung kaya mo. Don't ever give up,” she added. When asked how she prepared before joining “Rainbow Rumble,” Maffi revealed that she made sure to study the show, its mechanics, and how it runs. “I studied some trivias, current events, ‘yung random knowledge. Pinaghandaan ko ‘yung mechanics ng game just to make sure I could do my best,” she shared.
Looking back on her overall experience, Maffi said she especially enjoyed the jackpot round, where she was even given a free roll after answering the first three questions correctly. As a trivia enthusiast, she found the challenge thrilling. “Sobrang exciting siya, kasi tatakbo ka. It's very physical, tapos you're hoping,” she added.
