We already know how truly gifted they are as singers, but loud and proud Bisdak singers Mark Bautista, Marielle Montellano, Dulce, Sofronio Vasquez, and Jason Dy proved that they are just as naturally palaban or competitive during their stint on the April 12 episode of “Rainbow Rumble.”
It may have been Sofronio who was the first one to step into the pyramid of tiles, yet it was Marielle who was the first one to take the lead. Ever the playful host, Luis Manzano teased the situation, jokingly stirring drama by making it seem like she had something against the others trailing behind her. When asked for her message to them, Marielle quipped, “Mahal ko po kayong lahat pero gipit din talaga.”
As Sofronio stood only a tile away from winning and finishing the game, one of his contenders attempted to stop his momentum by using the “atras power.” Just when he confidently assumed that it was Jason, which prompted the latter to react, Sofronio was surprised when Luis revealed to him that it was actually Mark, who eventually sent him back to a tile worth P10,000. The host told Jason in jest that he did it to gauge his and Sofronio’s friendship.
In the end, it was Mark who advanced to the jackpot round, wherein he managed to correctly answer three out of six questions, earning him a free color advantage for the first DRM in the “Rapid Rumble” round. Unfortunately, despite this advantage, he still fell short of clinching the P1 million grand prize after missing the needed color in the final DRM. Still, he walked away with a total of P61,000 from the previous round.
The game proved to be such an enjoyable experience that, despite not winning, Sofronio, Marielle, Jason, and Dulce all expressed their delight. Although he felt a bit of regret since he was only a step away from the jackpot round, Misamis Occidental’s pride, Sofronio—who was able to secure P20,000—couldn’t be any happier that his dream of becoming a contestant in “Rainbow Rumble” finally came true and even called it “a very special moment” for him.
Fast-rising Cebuana songstress Marielle, who was made to move back twice by her opponents and ultimately earned P5,000, still relished the whole experience. Proud Butuanon Jason, on the other hand, initially joked that he had deliberately let himself lose, noting that this was already his second time on the show and that he had previously reached the jackpot round. He related how the pressure he had put in himself may have gotten the better of him, but he still had fun playing alongside close friends and went home with P5,000.
Asia’s Timeless Diva Dulce, also from Cebu, enjoyed going head-to-head with the younger Bisdak singers and took home P8,000.
When quizzed about which part of the game was most challenging, Sofronio said that apart from being all levelheaded, his fellow contestants were simply quicker than him at swiping the sensor. Jason and Dulce echoed this sentiment, while Marielle candidly shared that there were questions that she did not know the answers to.
“Rainbow Rumble” may be a gameshow, yet it left the contestants with meaningful takeaways. For Sofronio, it was learning not to let nerves get the better of him and to stay relaxed under pressure. Dulce, meanwhile, reiterated how much she genuinely enjoyed the experience—from the lively hosting of Luis and Negi to the care shown by the staff and the production’s impressive organization. Marielle, Jason, and Mark, on the other hand, shared that they gained new knowledge from the experience.
Mark, who many may not know hails from Cagayan de Oro City, related that aside from getting the groove of the game and having presence of mind at all times, the only preparation he did for his “Rainbow Rumble” appearance was watching a video clip of it just to get an idea of how it is done. And lastly, with regard to the part of the game that he’d enjoyed the most, the premier balladeer said that it would be the “tile breaker” and the witty banter between Negi and Luis.
