MANILA — In the absence of the southwest monsoon or Habagat, afternoon or evening rains may still affect many parts of the country due to Easterlies and thunderstorms, according to PAGASA.
“Wala po tayong ini-expect na mga tuluy-tuloy na mga malalakas na pag-ulan sa anumang bahagi ng ating bansa ngunit makakaranas pa rin tayo ng mga isolated o yung mga biglaang pag-ulan, pagkidlat, at pagkulog dulot ng Easterlies at ng mga localized thunderstorms,” weather forecaster Grace Castañeda-Carpio said during PAGASA’s Sunday afternoon broadcast.
(We are not expecting continuous heavy rains over any part of the country. However, isolated or sudden rains, lightning, and thunder due to the Easterlies and localized thunderstorms are possible.)
“Mostly sa hapon at gabi magpe-persist itong mga pag-ulan na ito at hindi pa rin natin niru-rule out yung possibility na mayroon pa ring short period ng malakas na pag-ulan dulot ng mga thunderstorms na ito kaya pag-iingat pa rin para sa ating mga kababayan,” she added.
(These rains will mostly persist in the afternoon and evening. We are also not ruling out short periods of heavy rain due to thunderstorms, so the public is still advised to exercise caution.)
The Easterlies are currently affecting Extreme Northern Luzon.
PAGASA said the warm and humid conditions may persist over most of the archipelago through the middle of the week, when the southwest monsoon may begin to affect the western sections of Southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao again.
No weather disturbance is being monitored within and near the Philippine area of responsibility but low pressure systems may form in the coming days.
“Not ruled out yung possibility na may mabuong circulation dito sa may silangan ng Luzon sa mga susunod na araw. Possible din na may pumasok na low pressure area sa loob ng monitoring domain sa bandang far east ng Eastern Visayas within the next 24 to 48 hours,” Castañeda-Carpio explained.
(The possibility of a circulation forming east of Luzon in the coming days is not ruled out. It is also possible that a low pressure area will enter the monitoring domain far east of Eastern Visayas in the next 24 to 48 hours.)
PAGASA forecasts two or three tropical cyclones to form within or enter the PAR this September.
The Habagat season typically ends during the early part of October.
