MANILA — No Filipino was affected by the record rainfall that lashed Nagoya earlier this week, Philippine Ambassador to Japan Mylene Albano said Thursday.
“Sept 8 ‘yung malakas na ulan pero mabilis lang nag-subside yung baha. There have been no reports of Filipinos affected,” Albano told ABS-CBN News.
About 104mm (four inches) of rain fell in an hour in part of Nagoya on Tuesday, prompting municipal officials to issue an evacuation order for parts of the city.
Cars were forced to plough through heavily flooded roads, causing huge jams, while water streamed into subway stations.
Nagoya is set to host this year’s Asian Games, which will kick off on September 19.
The weather disruption forced hundreds of Asian Games athletes to briefly evacuate their accommodation. Rainwater leaked into some competition venues, with more wet weather forecast for the coming days.
