Miss Philippines Earth 2025 Joy Barcoma may have won the hearts of Filipinos with her humor, but behind the punchlines and quick wit is a woman who works every day with determination to help build a stronger, safer, and more hopeful country.
A proud PUP College of Communication alumna and former Iskolar ng Bayan, Barcoma isn't just a familiar face online. She is an advocate, a voice of the people, and a woman who refuses to stay silent in the face of injustice.
Her rise on social media didn't just come from skits, glamour, or filters. People loved her because she was real. She talks about serious social issues with honesty, humor, and heart—doing it in a way that keeps people listening.
Her humor may spark laughter, but her message always provokes thought.
A woman of the Earth
Beyond the spotlight, Barcoma is committed to disaster resilience and community safety. She believes that addressing climate risks is not merely "green advocacy," but also a crucial step in combating poverty and inequality.
The beauty queen from Bacoor, Cavite previously worked with tech companies in the Philippines, where she helped develop a critical communications app that alerts people during disasters.
She was also part of a marketing team that created a mobile command and control vehicle recognized by EOSC's Handa Pilipinas, a meaningful step for disaster response in the country.
Today, Barcoma works with the city government as a consultant, championing social, civic, and economic programs that help bring progress to Bacoor and, eventually, the rest of the Philippines. She believes in accountability, transparency, and better policies.
Even on her social media accounts, Barcoma turns advocacy into something easy to understand.
Through her project, #SustainabilityIn60Seconds, she explains the Sustainable Development Goals in short, clear, and simple videos. No complicated terms, no long lectures: just real talk, the Filipino way.
Instead of preaching, she encourages her viewers to reflect. Her content creates space for people to listen, understand, and gradually rethink how they live—because for Barcoma, progress begins with awareness and small, conscious choices.
Changing the image of beauty queens
For many years, beauty queens have been seen as symbols of perfection: always smiling, always graceful, always polite. But Barcoma believes they also need to be loud, brave, and unafraid.
"People think beauty queens only represent a brand. But more than a face, we should be a voice,” she said. "You don’t need a crown to fight for people. And you should never fear losing a crown just because you speak up."
For her, beauty is not just gowns or stages. It is standing at the frontlines—fighting for the environment, fighting for justice, and fighting for Filipinos who do not always have a voice.
A voice that inspires
For Barcoma, titles and crowns are only tools, not the destination. What matters more for her are the communities she serves, the stories she tells, and the people she encourages to speak up.
She is living proof that change does not always come from big speeches or grand platforms. Sometimes, it begins with one woman who refuses to stay silent and dares others to do the same.
If there's one thing she believes, it's that every Filipino deserves to feel protected and hopeful about the future. And she’s willing to spend her voice, her work, and her heart making sure of that.
This November 5, Wednesday, Barcoma will aim for the Philippines' fifth Miss Earth crown. The pageant, which is celebrating its silver anniversary, will be held at Okada Manila.
