Totally hurt and heartbroken after hearing directly from her father, Ricardo (Edu Manzano), that he had secretly wished it was her who had died instead of her late brother, RJ (Alex Castro)—the child he clearly loved the most among his and Isobel’s (Carmi Martin) three children—Sam (Julia Montes) tearfully walked away from their highly emotional confrontation, which was further fueled by her suspension from service.
She headed straight to her bedroom, where she grabbed her most cherished photo with RJ from her dresser, along with the watch he had given her as a gift. Overcome with guilt, she repeatedly apologized for bringing misfortune and pain to their family. As she wept, she recalled the fateful night when RJ died—the real reason Ricardo had become distant from her while also growing increasingly domineering toward her.
It was revealed that the tragedy happened on the night Sam allowed her stubbornness to get the better of her. Despite Ricardo forbidding her from going clubbing with her friends, Sam disobeyed him and secretly sneaked out while the family was having dinner. Isobel discovered that Sam was gone after checking her bedroom and immediately told her husband, who became furious.
Ricardo asked Max (Arci Muñoz) to find Sam, but RJ volunteered to look for his sister himself. He eventually located Sam and even saved her from three young men who tried to harass her. They turned on RJ and beat him up, but RJ was strong and skilled enough to take them down singlehandedly. Afterwards, RJ brought Sam to a secluded corner where he reprimanded her for sneaking out and disobeying their father.
Little did they know that the group they had gotten into a fight with was waiting for them outside the club. As RJ was getting into the car after letting Sam in first, someone from the group suddenly shot him twice in the back, fatally wounding him.
Shocked to see her brother suddenly slump onto the hood of the car, Sam immediately got out to attend to him. She desperately cried for help, but no one came. Left helpless and devastated, she wailed as she cradled RJ’s lifeless body in her arms, while his blood flowed onto the ground.
