The black comedy drama film "Filipiñana" has been selected as the Philippines' bet for Best International Feature Film at the 2027 Oscars, the Film Academy of the Philippines (FAP) announced Sunday.
The announcement of the country’s entry came after a brief delay, as it was originally expected to be made during the opening night of Philippine Film Industry Month earlier this month, as is customary.
FAP Director General Paolo Villaluna earlier explained that the delay was due to deliberations that were still ongoing at the time of the opening night of Philippine Film Industry Month.
Written and directed by Rafael Manuel, "Filipiñana" explores the class divide through the story of a young woman, portrayed by Jorrybell Agoto, who works at a golf course.

The shortlist for Best International Feature Film is reportedly set to be announced on December 15, while the final nominees will be revealed on January 21, 2027. The 2027 Oscars, meanwhile, are scheduled for March 14, 2027.
Aside from "Filipiñana," the Philippines has two other entries for the upcoming Academy Awards: "58th" for Best Documentary Feature and "Agapito" for Best Live Action Short Film. — With a report from MJ Felipe, ABS-CBN News
