Discounted cinema tickets priced at just P100 sold out at several mall theaters on Saturday, September 12, as Filipinos turned out in large numbers for the inaugural Philippine National Cinema Day.

In two malls in Fairview, Quezon City, tickets for all screening schedules across six cinema rooms were sold out. A nearby mall likewise drew large crowds to its cinema area, with tickets fully booked through the last full-show schedule.

PH launches National Cinema Day on Sept. 12 with P100 movie tickets  

The P100 admission price was offered as part of the nationwide celebration aimed at encouraging Filipinos to return to theaters and rediscover the experience of watching movies on the big screen.

The initiative brings together cinema exhibitors, filmmakers, distributors and government agencies in an effort to support the local film industry and make theatrical moviegoing more accessible to the public.

The landmark event was officially launched last August at Shangri-La Plaza in Mandaluyong City, led by the Cinema Exhibitors Association of the Philippines (CEAP), in partnership with industry stakeholders and the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP).

The strong turnout on the first National Cinema Day underscored continued public interest in the cinema experience when affordable admission brings moviegoing within reach of a wider audience.
