Carlos Yulo opened up about how he manages the money he has earned from gymnastics.
In an interview with Karen Davila on 1ON1, the Olympic champion credited his girlfriend, Chloe San Jose, as one of the people who has been helping him handle his finances.
"Sobrang swerte ko po talaga kasi nandito si Chloe sa tabi ko and hindi rin po ako na-guide actually ng mga kasama ko before about this," he relayed.
Carlos said there are also other people around him who are helping him make better financial decisions.
"Hindi ko rin naman po expected na ganito 'yung magiging resulta. And I'm just really happy and grateful sa mga taong talagang sinusuportahan po ako," he stated.
He went on to admit that managing money is not one of his strengths, which is why he prefers to focus most of his energy on gymnastics.
"Outside gymnastics pagdating po diyan sa money, like hindi ako nag-iisa kasi aaminin ko hindi ko talaga forte 'yun and mas pipiliin kong mag-focus sa gymnastics more than sa ganung bagay," he said.
Carlos added that he also recognizes the importance of learning how to manage his finances.
"But at the same time it's really kailangan siya sa buhay. And kailangan matutunan din siya and I'm happy and willing po. 'Yung tao po sa paligid ko right now they are guiding me," he said.
Looking ahead to the time when he eventually retires from competition, Carlos also shared the kind of legacy he hopes to leave in Philippine gymnastics.
"Hindi naman po ako matagal na magiging atleta. Hindi ko ito kaya hanggang mag-50s ako. Actually we are making a gym na, it's under construction with Filinvest po. We're going to start there po. Tapos gusto ko rin magkaroon sa gym sa Cebu, sa Davao," he said.

The two-time Olympic gold medalist also sees himself becoming a coach someday as a way of giving back to the sport.
"That's the only pathway also for me po to give back sa sports na mahal na mahal ko," he remarked.
