Glaiza De Castro recalled the moment she found out she was pregnant with her first child with husband, Irish businessman David Rainey.

In an interview with Boy Abunda on Fast Talk, the actress shared how she took several tests to make sure the result was real.

“Hindi siya nagsink-in agad,” Glaiza maintained. “Parang siguro I had mga five pregnancy tests kasi hindi ako makapaniwala.”

The first-time mom said she decided to take pregnancy tests after noticing that her period had not arrived according to her usual schedule. She had been closely monitoring her cycle, which prompted her to take the test.

When she saw the two lines in the test indicating that it was positive, Glaiza admitted she simply stared at the result, unable to process what she was seeing.

“Parang tinitingnan ko lang. Tapos andon lang ako sa kama ko, [iniisip ko kung] totoo ba ‘to? Hindi siya yung parang, hindi talaga siya parang soap opera. Lahat ng mga ginawa ko sa soap, hindi ‘yun yung nangyari sa totoong buhay.”

“I was so stunned. And I couldn't believe na it was happening,” she said.

At the time, David was in Ireland for a family trip, but Glaiza made sure to tell him first.

The couple then asked their obstetrician to confirm the pregnancy.

“Tapos nung tumatawag na siya, nanginig na ako. Sabi niya sa akin, ‘Congratulations. Napakagandang balita naman ito. Ang gandang surprise naman ang binigay mo sa’kin,’” she shared. “Kasi before ko po malaman na pregnant ako, nagkaroon kami ng appointment with her. And she was a bit disappointed sa mga medical results namin. So may plan na kami talaga.”

According to Glaiza, some of the medical results pointed to lifestyle changes that they needed to work on. In her case, she had high cholesterol.

“Parang in a way, medyo bumaba ‘yung hope niya na magiging natural pa ‘yung pagco-conceive,” she recalled.

After receiving confirmation from her doctor, Glaiza said she was still too stunned to fully react.

“As in, tulala lang po talaga.”

It was only later, when she realized that she was due to give birth in January, that the news truly sank in for her. The baby’s expected arrival also falls within her birth month.

“Dun ako naiyak. Kasi parang sabi ko, ‘Wow, what a wonderful gift’. Kasi answered prayer talaga siya na matagal na namin pinagpe-pray...What a blessing.”

Now in her fifth month of pregnancy, Glaiza described her first trimester as a “roller coaster of emotions.” Still, she said she is embracing the experience and looking forward to becoming a mother.

She also clarified that the pregnancy was something that she and David had planned together and that they were not pressured by the people around them.
