Nicole Kidman opened up about the emotions she experienced behind the scenes on the night she won her first Oscar in 2003, taking home Best Actress for her performance in The Hours.
In an interview with Jake Shane on the Therapuss podcast, the actress admitted that despite reaching a major career milestone, she felt “beyond lonely” at the time.
“I had the pinnacle of my success, and I went home and was so lonely," she recalled.
Nicole had divorced Tom Cruise in 2001, two years before her Oscar win.
“So, yeah, crazy, though, that sort of the confluence of events where you go, ‘I wish…’ I had my mom with me and my dad, but I was like, ‘Where’s my partner, someone that I can share this with?’" she stated.
The Hollywood star said the experience made her realize that professional success alone was not enough to make her feel fulfilled.
"It was one of the most profound moments where I went, ‘I’ve got to get a life’ and at the same time, I’m holding this gold statue where you go, ‘This is, this is it. This is the highest sort of prize you can get in our industry.’ And so grateful and yet so lonely," she recounted.
Reflecting further on how she felt that night, Nicole described the experience as “weird.”
“I’d love to be able to just, you know, be wrapped in somebody’s arms right now,. I’d love to be around now, something that feels really, ‘Oh, okay. This is my real life,'" she admitted.
Nicole portrayed the role of Virginia Woolf in The Hours.
The actress is currently headlining the fantasy film Practical Magic 2.
In a recent interview with ABS-CBN News, Nicole shared the mantra or “made-up spell” that she turns to when facing difficult moments.
"This too shall pass. No matter how bad things are, no matter what comes at you, there's always, ‘This too shall pass.’ And it does. It passes through you, and you can go," she relayed.

Nicole added that she also shares the same message with her children.
"And I pass that on to my kids all the time. I'm like, ’It's okay. Tomorrow will be another day,’" she highlighted.
