It’s been more than a decade since Morisette Amon made her stage debut in Repertory Philippines’ production of Camp Rock: The Musical where she played the lead role of Mitchie Torres. This year, the talented singer and actress makes her long-awaited comeback to theater in Theater Group Asia’s staging of The Notebook: The Musical.
The 30-year-old actress shared why it took so long for her to return to doing live performances.
“Well, I was also just doing so many other things with my music, concerts, and of course all the mainstream stuff. But I think I also took the right opportunity, and when I was entrusted to The Notebook The Musical, it was a no-brainer. I am a fan of the book. I am a fan of the film. And then when I found out there was a musical, I listened to the soundtrack and did my research. Ang ganda talaga niya. So I wanted to be a part of that journey, telling that story that I feel ang dami niyang layers. Hindi lang siya love story. Ang dami niyang so many other layers na I want to also just, I guess, just be a part of. I’m so grateful it’s with Theater Group Asia, I’m grateful we have an amazing cast and crew and we’re so excited for everyone to see it!” she told PUSH ABS-CBN in an exclusive interview.

Morisette admitted the decision to accept the role came easy because she was already in love with the heartbreaking story of Noah and Allie. She also talked about working for the first time in a musical with her Kiwi-Filipino leading man Laurence Mossman, who plays her husband in the show and who has also done productions internationally.
“I actually met him when I got to catch Miss Saigon when they were running it here because I also have a friend who did Camp Rock and we were just catching up. That’s how I got to meet the cast there. I think it’s been pretty easy working with him. He’s very thoughtful to not just me but everyone around. I’m learning so much from him. I’m so excited to just be telling Allie’s story with him. Especially yung tremulous part na. I think it’s one of the hardest parts to be able to portray. But I trust my scene partner. I’m just so grateful that siya yung partner ko,” she shared.

Having come a long way from her stint in ABS-CBN’s The Voice of the Philippines in 2013, Morisette shared that she cannot wait for her fans to see her in a different light in The Notebook and showcase her versatility as a performer.
“I’m very, very excited, honestly. I feel like there’s so much that I want to share with people, but I’ve just been boxed into being a certain kind of performer. And so being able to do The Notebook, to do theater again, parang allows me to just share that I’m more than just a biritera and I can also be a storyteller. I can still be very complex with my singing and the stories that I put out with songs, but there’s so much more depth when you’re telling these stories,” she explained.

Based on Nicholas Sparks’ bestselling novel and the beloved 2004 film, The Notebook: The Musical, will run from September 3–20, 2026 at the Samsung Performing Arts Theater in Circuit Makati. The musical features music and lyrics by acclaimed singer-songwriter Ingrid Michaelson and a Tony-nominated book by Bekah Brunstetter.
