‘Thank you for the music’: OPM icons and artists remember Davey Langit

OPM icons and Filipino artists took to social media to pay tribute to singer-songwriter Davey Langit, who passed away on Tuesday, October 21, after battling a rare disease.

After his wife, Therese Villarante-Langit, shared the heartbreaking news, tributes poured in from artists, musicians, and industry colleagues expressing grief and admiration for Davey’s legacy and character.

Singer-songwriter Ogie Alcasid shared a video Davey had sent him last June after receiving a special gift.

“Davey… hindi pa rin ako makapaniwala. Ito yung pinadala mo na video sa akin nung natanggap mo surprise ko sa yo nung nanalo OKC. Ang saya saya mo. ❤️❤️😢😢😢Marami kami na nagmamahal sa yo at humahanga sa galing mo sa pagsulat at pag awit. Higit sa lahat sa napakabuti mong puso,” Ogie wrote.

 

 

The It’s Showtime and ASAP host also shared that he had spoken to Davey just weeks before his passing, making the loss even harder to accept.

“Nakakalungkot at nakakabigla. Lubos kaming nakikiramay kay Therese at sa yong mga mahal sa buhay. Lalo na si Aikee na kausap ko kaninang umaga. Rest in peace inaanak. Sing with the angels @iamdaveylangit,” he added.

Ogie’s wife, Asia’s Songbird Regine Velasquez, also remembered their collaboration on the song “Ipinagpanata Kita” as she penned: “Hindi ako makapaniwala 😢 maraming salamat sa iyong musika!”

OPM band The Itchyworms, who worked with Davey during Himig Handog P-Pop Love Songs 2016, also posted a photo with him. “We love you, @iamdaveylangit. 😘🤍🙏🏼.

 

 

Rapper Gloc-9 paid tribute by sharing Davey’s song “Idjay” as he said: “Para sa isang Tunay at Mahusay na Manunulat at Mang Aawit!!! Awitan mo kami Lagi.. Lipad Davey!!! 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼❤️❤️❤️.”

 

 

Rivermaya’s Mark Escueta expressed that he and wife Jolina Magdangal had long dreamed of collaborating with Davey. 

“Nandon palang kami ni Jolina sa pagiging fan at umaasang makapag collaborate tayo someday. Madalas, sa mga Filscap gatherings at Sportsfest tayo nagkikita. Lakas mo pa mag Basketball. Salamat sa musika at inspirasyon, Davey Ryan Edward Langit 🙏,” Mark said.

 

 

Singer-songwriter TJ Monterde also shared his heartbreak in an Instagram Story: “Woke up to this heartbreaking news this morning. One of my music idols — and someone I'm lucky to have called a friend — has joined our Creator. You'll forever live in our hearts, bro. at para sa’kin, isa ka pa rin sa pinakamagaling! Idol kita! alam mo yan. Rest easy, my brother. @iamdaveylangit.”

 

 

Davey’s fellow Pinoy Dream Academy Season 1 scholars — Yeng Constantino, RJ Jimenez, Jay-R Siaboc, and Emman Abatayo — and Season 2’s Laarni Lozada — also paid tribute to their brother in music.

“Rest in peace Kuya. 💔,” Yeng Constantino said.

 

“Rest easy, my brother, Davey Ryan Edward Langit. 💔 Your music will live on forever — a timeless gift that will keep inspiring hearts. We didn’t get the chance to jam again, but I’ll always hold on to the great memories we shared. Love you, bro. You’ll be deeply missed, but never forgotten. 🎸🕊️,” Emman Abatayo wrote.

 

 

He added: “Rest in peace, brother Davey Ryan Edward Langit. My fellow scholar, bandmate, roommate, food buddy — Our brother since Pinoy Dream Academy Season 1. 💔.”

 

 

Laarni Lozada also posted: “He was part of Pinoy Dream Academy Season One, with Ronnie, Siaboc, and Yeng's season. . Rest in peace brother Davey Ryan Edward Langit salamat sa magaganda mong musika 🎵🕊️🪽.”

 

 

 

Composer Thyro Alfaro recalled one of his favorite momento with Davey. “This is one of my favorite moments with you Davey Ryan Edward Langit. Sa gabing ito, wala tayong tugtog, wala tayong ganap doon sa lugar. Wala. Bonding lang over great music.  #DaveyLangit.”

 

 

Veteran filmmaker Jose Javier Reyes expressed his heartbreak: “My heart is broken today. A gifted young man who filled his music with love and honesty was called back by the Father last night. Now he is singing with the other angels. Goodbye, Davey Ryan Edward Langit. ‘The world was never meant for one as beautiful as you.’”

 

 

Content creator Mich Liggayu also reminisced about their collaboration on “Selfie Song,” which she and her late partner Jam Sebastian filmed for Davey.

“Heaven must sound even more beautiful today. 🕊️🎶 Sharing again our Selfie Song, collab with the ever-talented Davey Langit. I’ve always known Davey as a kind, humble, and gifted soul who shared his music generously with everyone around him. 🤍,” Mich wrote. 



 

“Watching this MV hits different now, knowing na sila Skippy, Jam, at Davey magkakasama na sa Heaven. I can just imagine them jamming and smiling up there. 🥹 The last time we talked, we were planning another collab. Napaka gaan lagi kausap ni Davey, such a genuine spirit. ✨ You will always be remembered, Davey. Thank you for the music and the warmth you brought into this world. 💫 May God and His angels bring love and comfort to your family. 🤍,” she added.
