Known for his heartfelt compositions, humble spirit, and enduring passion for Original Pilipino Music (OPM), Pinoy Dream Academy alum Davey Langit made a lasting mark on the local music scene. His journey resonated deeply with artists and fans alike.
With his sudden passing on October 21, 2025, due to complications from a rare spinal infection, the Filipino music industry mourned the loss of a beloved singer, songwriter, partner, and friend. As tributes pour in, many look back on his inspiring life and legacy.
A dreamer turned storyteller
Davey Langit first captured public attention as one of the scholars in the first season of ABS-CBN’s Pinoy Dream Academy in 2006. Although his stint on the show was short-lived, it became the foundation for a meaningful career both in and out of the spotlight.

Over the years, Davey made his mark as a singer, songwriter, and music producer, creating songs that reflected the beauty and simplicity of love and everyday life. His viral hit “The Selfie Song” (2013) became a playful anthem for the social media generation, while his later works revealed his emotional depth and maturity as a composer.
He also penned “The Wedding Song,” which went on to be performed at numerous weddings across the country.
Championing Northern voices
Proud of his roots, the Baguio-born musician co-founded the Amianan Pop Music Songwriting Festival with fellow singer-songwriter Ebe Dancel. The festival encourages artists from Northern Luzon to write, record, and produce songs in their own languages and dialects.
“Every language and/or dialect is unique, and so are the stories and nuances that come with it, and that is why this is the ultimate goal of the movement, to create a community of storytellers that will represent the now generation of Northern singer-songwriters,” Davey said as per Interaksyon.
A songwriter for others
His influence extended beyond his own performances. He was the creative mind behind several hits by Yeng Constantino, including “Cool Off” and “Time In.”
He also contributed “You Still Have My Heart” for Princess Velasco’s Addicted to Acoustic 2 album, “Bestfriend” for Yssa Alvarez’s Addicted to Acoustic album, and “The Love Song” with Raffi Quijano for their duet album.
Davey also competed in major national songwriting contests. His entry “NGSB (No Girlfriend Since Break)” was a finalist at PhilPop 2014, while his 2015 entry “Paratingin Mo Na Siya” won 1st runner-up. The following year, his song “Dalawang Letra,” interpreted by The Itchyworms, won Grand Prize at Himig Handog P-Pop Love Songs 2016.
A quiet battle with disease
Behind the cheerful smile and positive energy, Davey was quietly battling a rare spinal infection known as spondylodiscitis.
In August 2025, he revealed on social media that he had been experiencing severe chronic back pain that affected his daily movement and mental well-being.
“I've been having terrible bouts with severe chronic middle back pain, the kind of pain that really gets in the way of basic movements and daily living. With this, I can't run, can't ride my bike, can't lift weights or play basketball, kaya ayun, pati mentally, nahihirapan tayo hehe. But we're working on it na. MRI, therapy and meetings with other doctors are already scheduled and all. So, hopefully um-okay na the soonest. Yun lang. Sana oks lang din kayo!” he posted.
Weeks later, he confirmed that he had been diagnosed with spondylodiscitis and had been confined in the hospital for treatment.
“Grateful for my wonderful wife who's been my anchor throughout all of this. For taking care of me and every single thing I couldn't do 24/7. Thankful as well for family and friends who have reached out and extended love, well wishes and help to us. For constantly reminding us that we are loved. Ang dami ko nang namimiss gawin, hehe. Gumalaw-galaw, tumugtog at kung anu-ano pa. Pero mas marami akong mamimiss in life kung hindi ko ito uunahin. Salamat ulit sa mga mensahe't pananalangin ninyo! Be back soon!” he posted.
His wife, Therese Villarante-Langit, shared their journey through a vlog, expressing both their struggles and gratitude.
“It was such an extensive route to find the cause for his intense and persistent back pain, so it’s a heavy uncertainty off our shoulders. And while we still have a long way to go before he is fully treated, and he regains function of both his legs — we are kept afloat by everyone’s love and kindness. We feel it all so deeply. Truly, it sustains us in this mighty but temporary storm,” Therese wrote in the caption.
In the vlog, Therese showed how Davey, despite facing difficulties in his health, continued to smile and keep a positive mindset.
Surrounded by love
As his health battles became known, an outpouring of love and support from the music community, close friends, and family quickly followed.
Fellow OPM artists including Ebe Dancel, Noel Cabangon, The CompanY, Basti Artadi, Aikee, Kettle Mata, Mint Magic, The Catwalkers, Abby Clutario, and CHNDTYR were among those who announced a benefit show and gigs to help Davey and celebrate his musical legacy.
“I find that in the darkest of times, the littlest bright thing with another human being is not just appreciated but necessary. We will never forget our families and friends whose abundant love continues to shelter us,” Therese said in the vlog.
Sadly, on October 22, Therese announced Davey’s passing through a heartfelt message on social media.
“Davey loved life more than anyone I’ve ever met. He jumped off 75-meter free falls, rode the most frightening roller coasters, savored food, danced goofy, lit up every room with his warmth, his jokes, and loud laughter, and he loved, LOVED music and songwriting with such fire.
“Yesterday, my husband, our best friend, brother, son, bandmate, collaborator, favorite guitar player, master storyteller, and the kindest, brightest, most beautiful person — fought fiercely ‘til the very end. He felt so loved by you all these past few days. Thank you for filling his heart with so much gratitude, community, and hope,” she wrote.
“Thank you for being part of Davey’s life. He loved each and every one of you.”
A lasting legacy
Davey Langit leaves behind a legacy built on humility, sincerity, and the belief that music can both heal and connect. From writing hit songs to championing regional artistry, he proved that true success lies not in fame but in purpose.
