Kara David once again amused netizens after showing off a Death Note-inspired notebook she received from a friend, which is a playful nod to her recent birthday wish that went viral.
It can be recalled that Kara previously went viral after jokingly wishing on her birthday that all corrupt politicians would "die."
In reference to the popular anime Death Note, where anyone whose name is written in the mysterious notebook meets their end, Kara's new notebook instantly caught the attention of many netizens.
"Sinurpresa ako ng aking co-faculty [sa UP Diliman] sa gitna ng klase. Hahahaha. 'Kara' po ang pangalan ko hindi 'Kira.' Thank Ronin for this cool gift 🤪 shinigami yarn?" she posted on her Facebook page, showing the Death Note notebook she received.
Fans online were quick to react to Kara's post.
"Wish come true ma'am hahaha," another fan wrote.
"Lista niyo na po please," one fan commented.
In a video taken during her 52nd birthday celebration in September, Kara made her wish before blowing out the candles: "Sana mamatay lahat ng kurakot sa Pilipinas." The video has already gained 33 million views on Facebook as of this writing.
Kara's video became viral amid ongoing corruption issues surrounding flood-control projects in the country.
On August 11 during a press conference, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. questioned why only 15 contractors managed to corner 20 percent of nearly 10,000 flood projects since 2022, noting that more than half failed to provide details on what structures were being built. He also pointed out suspiciously uniform project costs despite varying locations and terrain, and the concentration of projects in areas not considered highly flood prone.
On August 19, The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) admitted there were "ghost" flood control projects and vowed to investigate them.
Malacañang announced on August 27 that the president has ordered lifestyle checks on all government officials, starting with those in the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
"Ipinag-utos ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. ang pagkakaroon ng lifestyle check sa lahat ng mga opisyal sa gitna ng imbestigasyon patungkol sa maanomalyang flood control projects," Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said.
On September 11, President Marcos Jr. signed Executive Order No. 94 creating the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) as "a fact-finding body mandated to investigate alleged corruption, irregularities, and misuse of funds in government flood control and related projects within the last 10 years, amid mounting concerns that have eroded public trust," as per Presidential Communications Office.
