MANILA — The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) said Thursday it was reviewing the employment documents of basketball coach Thomas Anthony "Tab" Baldwin after receiving an official response concerning his legal status to work in the Philippines.
In a statement, the labor department confirmed that it "has received, as of 3:11 PM, today, the verified answer ad cautelam regarding the inquiry on the status of Mr. Thomas Anthony 'Tab' Baldwin's permit to work in the Philippines."
The Office of the Secretary is leading the evaluation to ensure full compliance with the country's strict labor laws.

According to the agency, the assessment is being conducted "in view of relevant labor laws, rules, and regulations,” including the Labor Code and a department order on the employment of foreign nationals.
The evaluation of the submitted documents comes ahead of a formal scheduled meeting next week.
DOLE announced that "the hearing shall proceed on Monday, June 29, where Mr. Baldwin is expected to appear" to address the inquiry directly.
Baldwin earlier apologized and said he “failed” as a leader in a team-building activity that claimed the lives of student-athletes Rene Baterbonia and Divine Adili.
