As Gabo (Coco Martin) and Rudy (Joey Marquez) both turn down the job offered by Paquito (Rez Cortez) and Django (Jhong Hilario), which promises a whopping compensation, Betchay (Irma Adlawan) vehemently lashes out at them for rejecting an opportunity that was already within their reach.
An intense confrontation eventually ensues between Rudy and Betchay, with him nearly hitting her in a fit of rage. Gabo and Sam/Gloria (Julia Montes), meanwhile, can do nothing but simply listen to their heated exchange. Hearing Betchay hurl hurtful remarks at Rudy and Gabo, Sam cannot help but feel sorry for the father and son, as Betchay has not only ruined what was supposed to be a fun celebration but also humiliates them in front of many people.
Gabo then joins Sam inside his bedroom and morosely opens up to her about how he pities his father, as Betchay has already gone too far in degrading and belittling Rudy. When Sam asks him if Betchay has always been that way, Gabo admits that he actually has no idea why his stepmom makes it appear to everyone that Rudy is a worthless person and an irresponsible patriarch, while also treating them like freeloaders.
This prompts Sam to point out that even though Betchay is the main breadwinner of their household, she still has no right to trample on Rudy’s dignity. Gabo remarks that this is precisely why he cannot blame his father for exploding in anger, as what Betchay does to him is already inhumane.
Sam consoles Gabo by telling him not to worry anymore because she’s certain that Betchay will someday come into her senses and realize that what she is doing is not right. Gabo apologizes to Sam, imparting that they’ve already tried their best to understand Betchay, but she never changed. Thus, they have no choice but to endure and suffer through all the humiliation she subjects them to.
Moreover, Gabo can’t help but think that he may be the reason why Betchay has been hostile toward them through the years, since she has been blaming him for the loss of her and Rudy’s baby. He apologizes to Sam once again, to which she reassuringly replies, “Wala ‘yon. Magiging maayos din ang lahat.”
