On May 17, 2009, iconic K-pop girl group 2NE1 officially debuted under YG Entertainment, marking the beginning of one of the most influential acts in K-pop history.
Consisting of members CL, Minzy, Park Bom, and Sandara Park, the four-member group captivated fans during the golden era of second-generation K-pop with their fierce image, experimental music, and unapologetic confidence.
However, in 2016, YG Entertainment announced the sudden disbandment of 2NE1. The members pursued solo careers but still paid homage to their former group.
Almost five years later, 2NE1 surprised the world as they returned to stage to perform their hit song “I Am The Best” during CL's set in Coachella in 2022. The group then held their much-awaited comeback with their WELCOME BACK world tour in 2024. The group was able to reunite with their Filipino Blackjacks(their fandom name) during their Manila stop.

Lollipop
Before making their official debut, 2NE1 introduced themselves to the public with “Lollipop,” a collaboration with their labelmates and close friends, the boy group BIGBANG. The catchy and colorful track quickly became a hit and generated massive buzz for the group. The song also highlighted the chemistry between YG Entertainment’s biggest acts at the time.
Fire
With explosive beats, bold fashion, and unforgettable charisma, “Fire” officially introduced 2NE1 to the K-pop world in 2009. The song made the group stand out from other girl bands of the time with its bold concept and daring attitude. The song's video, which came out in two versions - “Street” and “Space”, quickly gained attention online and cemented 2NE1’s status as one of K-pop’s most exciting rookie acts.
I Don’t Care
With its mixture of reggae and R&B elements, “I Don’t Care” revealed the softer but strong side of the group. The fans resonated with the song's lyrics, which emphasized independence, love, and the ability to move past a toxic relationship. Moreover, the song made history for the group when it won Song of the Year at the 2009 Mnet Asian Music Awards, becoming the first idol group to earn a daesang in their debut year.
Lonely
Known for their fierce image, 2NE1 surprised fans with the emotional ballad “Lonely.” The stripped-down track highlighted the group’s softer and more vulnerable side through heartfelt lyrics about emotional distance in a relationship. The song even caught the attention of Will.i.am, who reportedly praised the track after hearing it.
Ugly
“Ugly” became one of 2NE1’s most emotional and honest releases with the song tackling insecurities, self-doubt, and beauty standards. The combination of strong vocals along with touching lyrics helped create a very meaningful song that touched people all around the globe.
I Am The Best
Released in 2011, “I Am The Best” became a global phenomenon with its addictive hook, powerful production, and unmatched confidence. According to a press statement from YG Entertainment, it is an intense song that incorporates elements of both electronic and hip-hop music and appeals to young people who frequent nightclubs. CL disclosed in 2021 that Justin Bieber was initially included on the list of collaborators on the song.
I Love You
The track "I Love You" highlighted a more mature and innovative face of 2NE1. Mixing electronic music with traditional Korean trot influences, the song is a love confession track about a mature, independent girl who has fallen in love for the first time. According to CL, the group wanted to try new genres and show the Korean culture in their music.
Falling In Love
With its reggae-inspired sound and refreshing summer vibe, “Falling In Love” allowed 2NE1 to explore a lighter and more playful concept while maintaining their signature charisma. The song also cleverly referenced several of the group’s previous hits.
Come Back Home
Praised for its futuristic concept and emotional storytelling, 2NE1 released “Come Back Home” in 2014. The song is by Seo Taiji and Boys’ song of the same name, while its sci-fi-inspired visuals for the music video were influenced by movie The Matrix. The emotional track talks about heartbreak and longing for someone who has already drifted away while wishing it to return.
Goodbye
Before officially parting ways, 2NE1 gave fans one final emotional farewell through their heartfelt track “Goodbye.” Released in 2017, the bittersweet track served as a heartfelt tribute to both the members and their fans who have been together for years.
CL later revealed that the song was originally written for Minzy who first departed from the group, before it evolved into the group’s final release following their sudden disbandment.
