With his new film Project Baby, director Eric Quizon brings to the big screen and puts a spotlight on the issue of women empowerment, specifically women who make the decision to carry and raise a child without looking for a partner. The talented director explained how his film is meant not just to entertain, but also to help open more minds on those who choose to become solo parents.
“Ang ending naman talaga, you can be a parent to anything. When you nurture something or when you build something, nagiging parent ka. You can be a parent of a project di ba? Me, I’m also like that in my family. So it’s something that I can really relate to, although I am not in my 30s (like the lead character). Pero somehow, ang lalaki kasi, parang wala kaming parang biological time clock. Yung daddy ko nga, 65 pa nakakagawa pa ng baby di ba? That’s why guys my age, nakaka-relate pa rin sa ganitong klaseng kuwento,” he said.

During the red carpet premiere of the film last June 9 at Eastwood cinemas in Quezon City, Eric talked about how he was not the original director of Project Baby.
“This project, we started conceptualizing this, the script was there, matagal na. It was originally Joey Reyes who wanted to do this movie. Kaya lang, because of his work right now, he couldn’t do it so I asked him if he has a script and he gave me the script. So dun nag-umpisa talaga itong project na ito. Kami ni Roselle (Monteverde, COO of Regal Entertainment) and I, we go a long way, ever since I became a Regal Baby, naging barkada ko na si Roselle. So when Roselle was askin me, ‘Ano, kelan ka gagawa sa Regal?’ So from a Regal baby na artista, now naman I’m directing for them. so parang I’ve gone two circles (laughs). It’s not just a full circle but two circles. That’s why we came up with this project,” he shared.
Direk Eric also could not help but share how proud he was of his entire cast, led by Sue Ramirez and Rico Blanco, the latter making his leading man debut onscreen in the film.
“I’m so happy na nakabuo kami ng isang napakaganda at napakagaling na cast, of course Sue and Rico leading the movie. And it’s a surprise kasi I’ve directed Sue the romantic actress kasi ito, pero hindi pala, kenkoy pala ito (laughs). And then of course si Rico, pag nakikita ko siya mag-perform, iba eh. Pero iba siya dito sa movie na ‘to. So there will be a lot of surprised along the way. So sana mag-enjoy kayo,” he added.
