Kris Aquino stepped out with her son Bimby Aquino-Yap at a face and body wash brand’s event in Taguig City on September 15.

The “Queen of All Media” surprised guests at Safeguard’s DermShow Divas, held to launch its new Derm-Protect line. She joined “DogShow Divas” hosts Baus Rufo and Macoy Dubs, dermatologists Dr. Gaile Robredo-Vitas and Dr. R-Jay Agbon, actress Valeen Montenegro, and content creator Lottie Bie.

The appearance comes just over a month after Aquino returned to the screen through a Netflix campaign in August, her first major on-camera project since she stepped back from regular showbiz work amid health concerns.

Now, she is back in front of cameras again, this time at an event focused on germ protection and skin health.

For the mother-and-son tandem, Safeguard is familiar territory. They have endorsed the brand before, and its PR team told ABS-CBN that their appearance this time around was more of a “welcome back.”

Despite her hoarse voice, Aquino was still very much her signature “taklesa” self. When Rufo asked what made her say yes to the event after being away from public appearances for quite some time, she said she was supposed to do something else that day, but “it wouldn’t have worked, not with this voice.”

She then revealed that she had named “an expensive price” for her DermShow Divas appearance and specified the date by which she wanted to be paid, a precaution she said came from previous endorsements where payment took as long as six months.

“One of the people who are handling my management, he sent me a picture of the check being deposited,” she said. The revelation drew laughter from the audience.

Aquino also spoke about her longstanding relationship with the brand, saying the soap was used by both her parents. She remembered that her father kept using it even during his time in prison, and her mother used it until she passed away.

“For all my endorsements, I feel so good that Safeguard is the one both my mom and dad used, so it means a lot to me,” she said. “It’s like something we all share.”

A self-proclaimed hoarder, Aquino said she had already stocked up on the new product before meeting with P&G representatives, in keeping with her rule that she does not endorse anything she has not tried first. She also said she pays close attention to “consumer value” when choosing products.
