Photo from Sophia Laforteza's Instagram accountSeasoned actress Carla Guevara Laforteza revealed that Disneyland has been her daughter and KATSEYE leader Sophia Laforteza’s “happy place” since she was young, explaining why the singer has been frequently visiting the theme park during her hiatus from the group.
“You know why? My husband was based in Hong Kong and 90 percent of cast members of Hong Kong Disney[land] are Filipinos... We were there literally everyday. She grew up there,” Carla recalled Thursday in an interview after the press conference for “The Notebook, The Musical.”
Carla said Sophia is using her break to recharge physically and mentally, assuring fans that the time away is for her daughter’s own good.
“It is a good thing she is resting so she is stronger when she comes back,” Carla said. “She needs to rest and take care of herself. She is that intelligent, she knows her body and brain needs to rest. And she deserves that. It is good she knows when to rest kasi 'pag nag-tuloy-tuloy baka hindi ako maka-deliver ng tama,” she added.
The actress acknowledged the additional pressure Sophia carries as the group’s leader.
“They all work equally hard. But in Sophie's case kasi leader, siyempre, pati Capricorn. I super relate to her. I know exactly what she is feeling and happening in her brain. Ako, I have the luxury to skip the next show; siya hindi pwede kasi she has responsibility sa Eyekons (fans). They have a schedule to follow,” she said.
Carla also said that she has not discussed with Sophia how long the hiatus would last, choosing instead to focus on supporting her daughter’s needs at the moment.
“I will be honest, I don’t ask her... We don’t like being asked or questioned. I know what she is thinking. I am being her mom, what can I can do for her,” she said.

Carla also thanked Sophia’s management for giving the members the support they need, including access to professional help.
“That is what's good about the management they support these girls and give the right support, doctors, therapies,” she shared.
She likewise expressed gratitude to Eyekons for continuing to support Sophia and waiting for her return.
“We are so grateful for supporting that and waiting for her,” Carla added.
“The Notebook, The Musical” runs from September 3 to 20, 2026, at the Samsung Performing Arts Theater in Circuit Makati.
