Jennifer Lawrence opened up about experiencing postpartum depression following the birth of her second child, admitting that the condition took her by surprise.
In an interview with The Interview of The New York Times, the Oscar-winning actress said she did not expect the condition, especially since she had already gone through motherhood once before.
"I was ready, and I knew what I was doing and I felt more confident. I definitely did not expect. I just expected to feel the way I feel with my first," she pointed out.
She went on to explain that she believes postpartum depression is largely driven by the physical and hormonal changes a woman’s body goes through during and after pregnancy.
"I feel like it should just be said. I think postpartum is just a physcial experience that happens to everybody. I mean, your hormones are doubling every day in your first trimester and then those hormones plummet after you have a baby. They plummet again when you wean," she said.
Reflecting on that period, Jennifer revealed that she struggled with extreme anxiety. "So my experience with my second was, I felt like a tiger was chasing me every day. I had so much anxiety. I had nonstop intrusive thoughts that I was just like at the whim of. They, like, controlled me," she recalled.
She went on: "It was fear about my child. Just picturing every worst-case scenario and just doubting everything that I was doing," she said.
The Die My Love star relayed that she underwent therapy and medication, which played crucial roles in helping her address the condition.
Jennifer gave birth to her second child with husband, Cooke Maroney, in March 2025.
