Currently in Australia performing in a multi-city tour with his band the Eraserheads, it looks like frontman Ely Buendia is enjoying getting back into the groove with his longtime bandmates Raimund Marasigan, Buddy Zabala, and Marcus Adoro. The band is also gearing up for the premiere of their documentary Eraserheads: Combo on the Run which will have a limited run in select cinemas nationwide.

Since causing his fans much worry after suffering from a heart attack on stage in 2007 and undergoing subsequent angioplasty procedures from his history of health issues, Ely is happy to share that he has been making sure to prioritize his health by making lifestyle choices for the better. “Yes, I’m definitely taking care of myself just so I can still perform for the fans,” he told PUSH ABS-CBN.

When he’s not busy on stage, Ely admitted that being a fur parent at home has also helped contribute to his better health.

According to Ely, “I’m a late bloomer eh. I’ve only recently had a cat, mga seven years ago. I used to be a dog person. I still love dogs but at my age parang it’s great you have a pet that’s super independent and super cute. The nurturing side of me is always there. I do spoil them. They’re cats so how can you not spoil them? (laughs). Right now I have six. I set the limit on six kasi medyo may trabaho na. I don’t really have that much time for another one (laughs),” he added.

As the opening date of their documentary draws near, Ely said it will give their longtime fans some new insight on the band. Although Combo on the Run is not the first time the Eraserheads will be seen onscreen, Ely explained why the Diane Ventura-directed film will be very different from their 1995 comedy film Run Barbi Run, which starred Joey de Leon.

“I think with this documentary, there’s a lot of positive things that can happen with this one. Me and the band all went into doing this knowing full well what that entails. In short, we weren’t forced into it naman so this project was something we all wanted to do,” he added.

Downplaying the possibility of making new music with the Eraserheads, Ely shared why it won’t be happening any time soon.

“I think again it all boils down to timing. Of course, we all we’re very active pa rin in terms of making music for our own projects. The analogy here kasi is parang when you meet up with your ex, parang is it a good idea to sleep with them again? Parang there’s so much baggage there. It might be enjoyable of course, but while you’re doing it you also have to think about the consequences.

"And I don’t mean to be super serious about it, but there are a lot of considerations to be considered when you’re actually making music again. Okay lang naman if we do the old songs for the fans because that’s what they’re there for anyway. But it would be nice of course if the timing is right and we all feel na we can still do something that we’re all proud of, you know?” he shared.

Eraserheads: Combo on the Run will run exclusively in cinemas from March 21 to 23, 2025. The film is directed by Diane Ventura and produced by Dvent Pictures and WEU. Distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures.
