BUSAN, South Korea — Recently crowned VCT Pacific champion Global Esports (GE) certainly has the confidence and momentum, and Patrick "PatMen" Mendoza hopes the team would sustain them until the VCT Champions in Shanghai.
With their qualification to China set in stone, PatMen and GE now have a bigger stage to conquer after emerging triumphant in the VCT Pacific: Stage 2, which has Acer Predator as PC partner.
"For Champions, I think tatrabahuhin namin 'yung mindset, 'yung mga strengths namin. Mahirap din sa Champs (Champions), kasi halos lahat ng team talaga magagaling. Kaya sila nandoon dahil deserve nila 'yung spots din at the same time," said PatMen on Sunday, September 6, at the Sajik Indoor Gymnasium.
"Isa sa pinakakailangan naming i-maintain is 'yung confidence and 'yung form namin as players," he added.
PatMen underscored the importance of keeping their morale high to fight inner doubts, especially when losses pile up.
"Sa esports, sobrang hirap kapag dumating sa point na meron ka lang isang bad game, parang nakalimutan mo na lahat 'yung magandang games mo. Ang isa pa sa pinakamahirap is if naging kalaban mo 'yung sarili mo," said PatMen.
With their qualms shrugged off after the Pacific victory, PatMen and GE's triumph also in a way silenced their critics.
"Super saya, kasi andami ko rin doubters. I mean, hindi man maiiwasan 'yun. Kahit si LeBron James may doubters. Kahit si Michael Jordan may doubters. Marami rin akong ginawa, actually, para makamit 'tong trophy again. Kasi sobrang hirap sa esports. Matatalo ka nang 100 times bago ka manalo," said the two-time regional champ.
"And sa larangan namin, laging isa lang ang team na nananalo which is sobrang hirap. And minsan kailangan mo lang na magkaroon ng magandang mindset."
