MANILA – It was a dream come true for Kapamilya superstar Vice Ganda to perform at the UAAP, as her alma mater Far Eastern University hosts Season 89.

The It’s Showtime host electrified the Mall of Asia Arena on Saturday with a “Super Unkaboga-Bowl” performance at the opening festivities.
Vice was joined by fellow Kapamilya stars Mikha and Maloi of BINI, singers Darren Espanto and Maki, and girl group Baby Dolls.
“When I was told to do it, I was super, super, super, super, duper excited. Fantasy ko siya. Noon pa, kahit may mga cheer dance competitions, sinasabi ko, ‘Di ba pwedeng may guest celebrity performer? Yung biglang sasama ako sa event.’ Dream ko yung makasama sa ganyan,” Vice told reporters after the opening ceremony.
The Kapamilya star said that when she saw the UAAP Season 88 opener hosted by the University of Santo Tomas last year, which featured Sarah Geronimo and Piolo Pascual, she felt that her dream could become a reality.
“Sabi ko, feeling ko may chance. Feeling ko tatawagan ako ng FEU. And tinawagan nga nila ako. I was super excited to do it. It was my gift to FEU,” Vice said.
The It’s Showtime host, who majored in Political Science, shared why she decided to include a social message in her performance.
Vice called on the youth to speak up and take an active role in society amid the challenges facing the country.
“I felt like it was the perfect moment to do it. Perfect audience, perfect target audience, perfect target listener, perfect occasion. So I didn’t want to waste that chance. Since you said nga na PolSci student ako, kailangan bigyan natin ng glimpse kung ano pinag-aralan ko sa FEU,” she said.
“Sila yun eh. Sila yung tina-target natin ngayon na mga tao na gusto natin ma-inspire sa mga pwede natin sabihin at makasama sa kung ano mga gusto nating pagbabagong mangyari ngayon sa bansang ito. Sila talaga yung game changers. Kaya yung message na yun talaga, swak sa kanila,” Vice explained.
Vice likewise talked about the grand entrance that opened the performance, which saw the comedian singing atop a giant mechanical tamaraw.
“I just want to be extra at that moment. I just want it to be grand. I just want it to be unkabogable. I just want it to be just Vice. Kasi ayoko nga, I don’t want to miss and waste that chance. Sayang yun na hindi ka magpa-[something] na basic. I don’t want to be ordinary,” she said.
The FEU alumna expressed her gratitude to the university, the UAAP and everyone who helped make the “Super Unkaboga-Bowl” performance possible.
“Kaya hindi ako napapagod kahit ginagawa ko ito. Kasi yung purpose ko is this needs to be shared. So, tinanggap. So this is for FEU. This is for the audiences. This is for the young kids, for the queer. For the young queer kids who will be watching me. So, ang sarap na somehow na-target at na-achieve natin yung goal na yun,” Vice said.
Filipino rapper Gloc-9, who is also an FEU alumnus, likewise brought the house down with his hits, including “Sirena” and “Upuan.”
The UAAP Season 89 men’s basketball tournament will tip off with a triple-header on Sunday at the Araneta Coliseum in Cubao.
