MANILA — Two former MVPs of University of Perpetual Help are now making waves for their respective squads in UAAP Season 88.

University of Santo Tomas’ Amiel Acido, the NCAA Season 99 juniors MVP, and De La Salle University’s Lebron Daep, the recipient of the same plum in Season 100, finally met as opponents last Saturday.

“Sobrang saya ko na naka match-up ko siya dito,” said Acido, who fired 13 points with six rebounds and a steal in the 93-83 victory of the Growling Tigers. “Nung nasa Perps kami, pinapangarap lang namin ‘to.”

The two athletic wingmen made history with the Junior Altas during their time with the Las Piñas-based team.

Acido spearheaded Perpetual’s Season 99 run in 2024 which saw them reach the Finals for the first time in school history, and while he eventually left for UST as he joined the collegiate ranks, his ex-teammate made sure to finish their story in Season 100.

Daep, who is averaging 5.5 markers in two games for the Green Archers so far, not only earned the grand-old league’s top individual plum, but he also took Perpetual all the way to winning the NCAA 100 crown.

And while they are now with different teams in the UAAP, Acido said that nothing has changed with their brotherhood.

“Proud ako sa kanya na maganda yung pinapakita niya,” he said.

However, given that one is representing the España-based team while the other is in Taft Avenue, Acido said that his goal now is to improve more and more as he aims for glory with UST.

“Kahit papaano, ngayong season na, paunti-unti na akong nakakapag settle,” he said. “Ganun ka-taas yung kumpyansa ko dahil sa mga coaches ko. Lagi kong iniisip na ayaw kong sayangin yung chance na binibigay nila sa akin.”
