After only posting quiet numbers of 2.5 points with 2.4 assists and a turnover in their first two games, the former University of the East star finally broke through for the Fighting Maroons on Sunday.
Against his former team, Remogat -- the runner-up for Most Valuable Player honors in Season 86 -- flexed his might with 21 markers on six three-pointers, and this was with 11 dimes, seven boards, and two steals.
That he broke out of his slump against the Red Warriors was pure coincidence, said Remogat, who insisted that his focus was solely on helping UP find its first win.
“‘Di ko naman ginawang basis yung UE para maging maganda yung laro ko,” said the 5-foot-11 playmaker. “Wala namang gigil. Yun nga, galing kami sa dalawang sunod na talo, so ‘di pwedeng mangyari yung pangit yung umpisa ulit. Nag-focus lang ako sa kung anong dapat kong gawin as a point guard.”
But even with his stellar outing against the Red Warriors, Remogat admitted that the days building up to Sunday were eventful for him especially due to the flak which he was receiving online.
“Alam ko naman, kahit ‘di ako nagbabasa sa social media, siyempre yung feeling na pangit laro ko at yung sa expectations sa akin, pangit yung sasabihin eh,” he said. “Kung ibang player yun, baka na-depress na or inatake na ng anxiety.”
“Kahit sila LeBron [James] nga, nagkaka-bad game, so sino pa ako na simpleng player lang,” he added.
To overcome these, Remogat said that aside from leaning on his teammates and coaches, it was his faith that lifted him back to his usual self.
“Pero ako, the more na lumulubog ako, the more na tumatatag ako at yung faith ko kay Lord,” he said. “Nagdasal lang ako, at siguro, God-willing na sa UE. Andoon lang yun sa kung papano ka babawi, kung paano ka babangon kapag nadapa ka. Ngayon, bumangon lang ako ng ako.”
As for the outside noise, here’s what Remogat had to say: “Nilalagay ko sa utak ko na hindi kong kailangan i-please yung ibang tao.”
