MARAWI CITY (UPDATE) — The Provincial Board of Canvassers in Lanao Del Sur on Tuesday afternoon proclaimed all nine parliamentary district representatives of the province in the first Bangsamoro Parliament.

Five of the nine seats of parliamentary district representatives in Lanao Del Sur have been proclaimed Tuesday morning.

Provincial Election Supervisor Mohammad Mutia said among the winners are Hamza Gauraki (UBJP) as 2nd District Representative; Lampa I Pandi (UBJP), 4th District Representative; Hosni Macapodi (SIAP), 6th District Representative; Rayyan Mindalano (SIAP), 7th District Representative; and Ahmad Amir Balindong (UBJP), 8th District Representative.

The four other winners - Doc Pala Gandamra (1st District), Abdul Rauf Adiong (3rd District), Arimao Asum (5th District), and Rashdi Adiong (9th District) - were proclaimed in the afternoon.

Despite having the highest number of areas of grave concern, elections in Lanao Del Sur were peaceful.

“Alhamdulillah, nagpapasalamat tayo na walang nangyari na hindi maganda. No untoward incidents, walang nangyaring putukan na na-report sa atin,” he said.

The peaceful elections in the province, he explained, is a result of the collective effort of stakeholders and the security sector.

“Lahat ng mga importanteng ahensya ng gobyerno na tumulong sa atin, our partner agencies. Nung nag-election tayo, naging orderly, yung flow ng ating pagboto, voting process ay smooth lang. It has do with the security sector, given the inaugment nila dito na pwersa.”

Police Brigadier General Jemuel Siason of the Bangsamoro Regional Office said despite several incidents in Cotabato and Maguindanao, they are “happy” with how the elections turned out in Lanao Del Sur as far as peace and order is concerned.

If there’s one thing that the public can learn from the way the parliamentary elections unfolded in Lanao Del Sur, according to the Comelec, it’s that a peaceful electoral process is possible even for a region with a decades-old history of conflict.
