LAMITAN CITY — Voting in Lamitan City commenced early morning Monday with police and military visibly securing polling centers.
Senior citizens, persons with disability and pregnant women were among the first at the polling center, which opened at 5 this morning.
Six metro barangays in Lamitan have their precincts in Lamitan Central Elementary School.
The whole city has 56,042 registered voters.
Comelec en banc has placed the municipality of Maluso under its control after a reported pre-shading of ballots last night.
The police reported to Comelec that 36 out of 68 clustered precincts in Maluso have not proceeded with the voting as they reported defective VCMs, while the other 32 clustered precincts in the municipality have proceeded as scheduled.
Security remains tight in all voting centers here in Basilan which has 248,245 voters.
As of 6:20 this morning, Miguel dela Peña, Acting Provincial Election Supervisor said voter turn out in the entire province has reached over 50 percent.
