MANILA (UPDATED) -- Five people, including a child, died in the town of San Remigio in Cebu after the magnitude 6.9 quake that rattled the province on Tuesday night.
Police Capt. Jan Ace Elcid Layug, officer in charge of the San Remigio PNP, confirmed the development.
One is a BFP personnel and three are from the Philippine Coastguard who were playing basketball inside the sports complex before it collapsed. They were competing for the Mayor’s cup.
The other casualty is a child who was trapped in a rubble in a separate location.
The quake occurred at 9:59 p.m. at a depth of 5 kilometers about 21 kilometers northeast of the City of Bogo.
Following the quake, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology issued a Minor Sea Level Disturbance advisory for people in the coastal areas of Leyte, Cebu, and Biliran, urging them to be on alert for any unusual waves.

The municipality said early Wednesday that it intends to declare a state of calamity, pending an emergency session of the 28th Sangguniang Bayan.
This will allow them to facilitate immediate response and relief efforts, including the mobilization of resources, provision of assistance to affected communities, and implementation of measures to prevent further harm. -- with a report from Bea Cuadra, ABS-CBN News
