MANILA — Malacañang has shortened work hours in government agencies, government-owned and controlled corporations, and state universities and colleges on September 28 as part of National Family Week celebrations.
Under Memorandum Circular No. 136, work in state-run institutions shall be suspended from 1 p.m. onwards on the last Monday of September.
“Government workers in the Executive branch are encouraged to fully support the programs and activities relative to the observance of National Family Week, as organized by the National Committee on the Filipino Family,” the memorandum read.
“The suspension of work in other branches of government, independent commissions or bodies, and the private sector is also encouraged, so as to afford all Filipino families the full opportunity to celebrate the National Family Week,” it read.
“Those agencies whose functions involve the delivery of basic and health services, preparedness/response to disasters and calamities, and/or the performance of other vital services shall continue their operations and render the necessary services.”
National Family Week has been celebrated in the Philippines every last week of September since 1992.
A separate proclamation in 2012 designated every fourth Monday of September as “Kainang Pamilya Mahalaga" Day.
