Fashion influencer Mimiyuuuh, whose meteoric rise was attributed to her earlier home videos of living in “poverty,” made a statement that split internet users: Should one stay true to one's upbringing or should one improve life and never look back?

In a now-viral podcast interview with directors Antoinette Jadaone and JP Habac, Mimiyuuuh took the opportunity to challenge Filipinos who continue to question her decision to upgrade her lifestyle.

“Gusto ko rin itong ilabas,” Mimiyuuuh began, notingh that when wealthy people flaunt their luxurious lifestyle, they do not face the same level of criticism.

“Bakit tayong mga Pilipino na kunwari na may nakita tayong mayaman na tao at nag-share siya ng mga pinagbibili niya ay naa-amaze tayo? ‘Wow. Ang ganda naman nito. Nakuha niya ‘yung ganyan, ganito.’

“Pero why when it comes to me na isang self-made at hard worker na ‘pag nag-share ako ng mga bagay na nakukuha ko or nae-experience ko ay bakit nagagalit ‘yung mga tao?” she asked.

She then addressed the criticism she has received since becoming successful: “Iniwan mo na kami sa kanal.”

“Kaya ako nag-work hard para makaalis sa kanal,” she stressed.

Podcast host Jadaone added, “Bakit ba natin gustong manatili sa kanal?”

Referring to "kanal" as a symbol of staying in an uncomfortable life rather than getting the life one deserves, the popular content creator replied, “Eh ang baho riyan.”

“Sa totoo lang,” Jadaone added.

Mimiyuuuh said that despite having the life she has always desired — wearing designer clothing, having a comfortable home, and supporting her family — her personality has remained unchanged.

“‘Yung taste ko before [fame and money], ‘yun talaga ang reason kung bakit ako nag-work hard para makuha ko ‘yung mga gusto ko talaga,” she shared, explaining that she had always had a taste for nice things but couldn't afford them.

She then left a message stating that settling for less will prevent people from realizing their full potential.

“Bakit ba natin ipinagkakait ang best para sa sarili natin? Why do we always settle for less? Ang best things in life ay andiyan lang ‘yan. All you have to do is get [them]. Sometimes nagse-settle tayo [kaya] hindi natin nakukuha ‘yung mga meant for us,” she ended.
