Imagine the almost life-like sight of Jungwon, Heeseung, Jay, Jake, Sunghoon, Sunoo and Ni-ki singing and dancing right in front of you. As they shift formations, their faces move closer — so close, it feels like only inches separate you.
At times, they even throw flirty looks and playful gestures your way, making it hard not to squeal from “kilig.” In other moments, you’re left in awe of the fantastical visuals surrounding them.
Such is the experience offered by “ENHYPEN VR Concert: Immersion,” a virtual-reality (VR) concert film featuring the titular K-pop boy group.
The film serves as the debut offering of Gateway Immersive Experience, which was launched late Wednesday alongside the movie’s premiere at Gateway Cineplex 18 in Quezon City — home to the country’s first-ever VR concert film setup.
“With this launch, we are not just unveiling a concert,” said Irene Jose, chief operations officer of Uniprom Inc., the entertainment arm of Araneta City that operates Gateway Cineplex 18.
“We are reimagining how music and technology come together to create something deeply engaging, accessible and memorable through the VR goggles,” Jose said at the premiere.

Winston Llamas, chief executive officer of concert production company Wilbros Live, which also worked in bringing “Immersion” to the country, said the VR concert film hinted at “what the future of concert entertainment can look like.”
“Immersion” begins screening to the public on Thursday, November 20, and will run until December 6.

Hit singles, fan favorites
During screenings, viewers are required to wear VR headsets as they watch ENHYPEN perform a selection of hit singles — including “Bite Me,” “XO (Only If You Say Yes)” and “No Doubt” — as well as fan-favorite deep cuts.

Each performance unfolds in settings that are either reminiscent of the ones in the group’s music videos or fantastical worlds that feature elements like towering moons or lightning striking buildings.
The experience also includes interactive elements, such as audiences holding and waving light sticks (visible only on-screen), or choosing a favorite member toward the end to receive a personalized message.
Adding to the near-realistic concert experience, brief segments between performances show the members speaking directly to the audience— similar to the “ments” in real-life K-pop concerts — as they talk about their songs and share their thoughts on doing in a VR concert, with subtitles flashing above them.

More VR concerts
But “Immersion” is just the beginning of VR concert experiences in the Philippines.
“We are already working on bringing more K-pop acts to the VR platform,” Llamas of Wilbros said, adding that he hoped P-pop acts would be able to offer VR concert experiences.
In fact, even before “Immersion” began screening, Wilbros had already announced the upcoming local run of “Tomorrow X Together VR Concert: Heart Attack.”
The feature stars Tomorrow X Together, a boy band from the same K-pop company as ENHYPEN. It will also be screened exclusively at Gateway Cineplex from December 8 to 24.
