After capturing the hearts of tennis fans around the world, Alex Eala may soon start making waves in the world of fashion.
The Filipina tennis star recently got the attention of no less than Anna Wintour, former editor-in-chief of Vogue magazine and co-chair of the Met Gala.
In an interview with the US Open, Wintour observed Eala's interest in fashion based on her stylish looks on the court, and compared her to tennis greats Serena Williams and Naomi Osaka.
"Well I think it's really interesting, especially when you look at players [like] Serena or Naomi, who really embrace fashion and express themselves with it," she said.
The fashion icon went on, referring to Eala: "And we have the young Filipino star... you could see even in such a young star how interested she is in fashion and how she wants to learn about it and follow it."
"And I think it's great, it's wonderful how sports and fashion have become this wonderful sort of marriage."
Eala was also seen in an Instagram Reel posted by Vogue.
The clips were taken from an event hosted by Wintour at the Arthur Ashe Stadium, meant to celebrate Rodger Federer's return to the US Open, based on the caption.
The caption referred to the guests, including Eala, as "friends of Vogue."
Eala's sense of style comes as no surprise as the niece of a fashion designer. During the Laureus World Sports Awards in Madrid earlier this year, she wore a modern Filipiniana by Rhett Eala.
In a previous interview with ABS-CBN News, Rhett shared that his niece reached out to him with a clear vision for her red carpet look.
"Alex said that she wanted something Filipino and something in piña… She also wanted a top that she should be able to remove at the end of the night. So, she wanted to go dancing," he said.
