Actress and fashionista Heart Evangelista recently reflected on her global success as a leading fashion force in Asia and one of the Philippines’ most sought-after celebrity endorsers, sharing how she stays grounded.
Saying that everyone in showbiz is replaceable, Evangelista told the press on Wednesday, “I’m aware na kaya kang palitan any time. May shelf life ‘yung mga itsura namin.”
“At a very young age — I started 14 — I knew that na ang dami namin (a lot of competition). Hindi parating nasa iyo or kumbaga the sun isn’t always going to be shining for you. You have to understand that. You have to share that with other people. You can’t be selfish. I’m very self-aware,” she continued.
Evangelista went on to remark that stardom doesn't last forever, stressing, “It can disappear literally one day. One wrong gossip and it’s gone. That has always kept me grounded.”
“That’s why I like to give not just my one hundred percent. Blood, sweat, and tears ang ibinibigay ko kasi mapapalitan ka naman, eh,” she added.
While reflecting on her global stardom, the fashion influencer said she hopes to be remembered as someone who gave her all.
“The goal now is not to achieve anything, glorify yourself. The goal is sana maalala nila ako one day. ‘Yun lang naman ang gusto ko. If not, at least ‘yung mga anak nung mga nakatrabaho ko or ‘yung team ko,” she expressed.
She also told the reporters that she's grateful that she can still do what she loves after 28 years in the industry.
“Putting yourself out there — you have to understand na may kapalit lahat ng bagay. You risk yourself. There are pros and cons. But there’s nothing liberating than going for your dreams harangin ka man ng sibat,” she opened up.
“Go for your dreams. Risk it all. And not care about what people say,” added the fashion sensation.
Going deeper, she continued, “Kapag lumaki ka sa showbiz, kailangang bumenta ka, kailangang mahalin ka pero mahal mo ba ang sarili mo? What truly matters is pangarap ko ito, eh. Wala naman akong inaapakan.”
Evangelista was also asked about the misconceptions people have about her.
She replied, “Maarte naman talaga ako. Naaartehan talaga sila sa akin. ‘Yun ang first. I confirm. I am. But I don’t think na mayroon naman akong nasaktan sa pagiging maarte ko. Hindi naman ako nag-iinarte.”
She added, “I think the common misconception is ‘why does she dress up so much.’ Iba-iba kasi tayo ng mga paraan para maka-cope ng struggles natin. Hindi lang ako wired perfectly. I have a lot of things running in my mind. It’s my way of protecting myself.”
