Two Filipino-Americans emerged victorious in this year's Tony Awards, which celebrates the best in Broadway theater.
Nicole Scherzinger, a former Pussycat Dolls member, won Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical. She heads the cast of the acclaimed revival of "Sunset Boulevard."
Hollywood actor Darren Criss, on the other hand, bagged the Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical award for "Maybe Happy Ending."
Other Fil-Ams nominated this year are Conrad Ricamora (Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Play for "Oh Mary") and Clint Ramos (Best Costume Design of a Musical for "Maybe Happy Ending").
The 78th Tony Awards was held at the Radio City Music Hall in New York on Sunday (Monday in Manila) and was hosted by "Wicked" star Cynthia Erivo.
Filipina theater star Lea Salonga, the first Asian to win a Tony Award for Best Lead Actress in a Musical, was also part of the event as a presenter.
