PETA's 'Walang Aray' wins Outstanding Musical at the 14th Gawad Buhay Awards. ABS-CBN News
MANILA — PETA’s hit musical comedy “Walang Aray” dominated the 14th Gawad Buhay awards on Tuesday night with eight wins, including Outstanding Musical.
The musical, which had three sets of lead stars that included Kapamilya love team Alexa Ilacad and KD Estrada, also won Outstanding Stage Direction for a Musical for Ian Segarra, Outstanding Book for playwright Rody Vera, and Outstanding Original Score for composer Vince Lim and lyricist Vera.
But it was Shaira Opsimar who won Female Lead Performance in a Musical for “Walang Aray,” while Myke Salomon took the prize for Male Lead Performance in a Musical for ‘The Last Five Years.”
Barefoot Theatre Collaborative’s “The Last Five Years” was also a big winner with 4 prizes, including Outstanding Production of Existing Material for a Musical.
Meanwhile, in the straight play categories, The Necessary Theatre’s “Red” was named Outstanding Production of Existing Material for a Play, while star JC Santos picked up the prize for Male Lead Performance in a Play.
The late playwright Floy Quintos was given the Natatanging Gawad lifetime achievement award.
Gawad Buhay is the main program of Philstage, an alliance of Manila-based professional companies in the theatrical arts. This year's nominees, as in previous editions, were selected by an independent jury.
