Fresh from getting the “ASAP XP Australia” crowd on their feet with his timeless hits “Sa Kanya” and “Ikaw Sana,” Ogie Alcasid had the audience feeling all the kilig as he serenaded them with “Sa Piling Mo,” alongside fellow OPM icon—and his beloved wife—Regine Velasquez-Alcasid.
But before they got into the song, the couple, fondly known as “OgRe,” had the audience laughing and swooning with their signature banter and a sweet kiss. The OPM chief then disclosed that he actually wrote "Sa Piling Mo" for the "Asia's Songbird" at a time when he was already falling in love with her.
“Lingid sa iyong kaalaman, meron na akong nararamdaman. Ngunit aking ikinubli at itinago, kung kaya’t ito ay sinulat ko,” Ogie told Regine, offering a glimpse into the lovely story behind the song. He then pulled the audience into their feels, asking if they still remembered that all-too-familiar feeling when the person they love is right in front of them, leaving them unable to contain their emotions—as if, for a moment, the whole world simply stops whenever they’re around.
The iconic pair kept the good vibes going even after their duet, teaming up to introduce the next performers, real-life couple KZ Tandingan and TJ Monterde. Ever the entertainer, Ogie couldn’t resist slipping in three knock-knock jokes inspired by KZ and TJ’s collaborative single, “Palagi,” giving everyone another reason to laugh before the next performance.
