Can you feel the mother-off tension heating up? Vice Ganda and Nadine Lustre are more than ready to serve as they face off for the ultimate mom crown, as seen in the official trailer of the 51st Metro Manila Film Festival entry “Call Me Mother”. The trailer premiered on TV Patrol and was released on Star Cinema’s social platforms and YouTube channel on Tuesday, December 2.
Directed by Jun Robles Lana and written by Daisy G. Cayanan, Daniel S. Saniana, and Lana himself, the film is a co-production between ABS-CBN Film Productions Inc., The IdeaFirst Company, and Viva Communications Inc. The story follows Vice Ganda as Twinkle, a single queer mom whose long-awaited adoption of her son gets shaken when the biological mother, played by Nadine Lustre, suddenly reenters the frame.
What happens when two mothers claim the same child in two very different ways? The trailer teases a collision of love, pride, humor, and everything messy and meaningful about motherhood.
The trailer digs into its biggest hook: the transactional deal that forces these two women into each other’s orbit. Mara, an aspiring beauty queen eyeing the “Miss Uniworld” crown, needs a coach. Twinkle, a seasoned pageant trainer, needs legal motherhood. So, they strike a bargain — beauty queen training in exchange for Angelo’s guardianship. Is it fair trade… or drama waiting to happen?
As glimpsed in the trailer, their uneasy partnership shifts into a push-and-pull of affection. Mara begins bonding with Angelo; Twinkle feels her place threatened. The tension simmers into a full-blown motherly tug-of-war, mixing comedy with unexpected gut punches.
Still, tender moments shine through the tension, as Twinkle dreams of taking Angelo on that long-awaited Disneyland adventure, while Mara showers him with love and gifts.
Meanwhile, Twinkle lands the trailer’s emotional knockout: “Siyam na buwan mo lang s’yang dinala sa sinapupunan mo, pero sampung taon ko na s’yang inaaruga araw-araw. Hindi ako manganganak, dahil hindi ako babae. Pero nanay ako! Nanay ako, Mara!”
