The new "Resident Evil" film had a monstrous opening day in the Philippines after earning P10.4 million nationwide.

This marks the biggest opening day for the "Resident Evil" franchise in the country, distributor Columbia Pictures said.

Specifically, the horror film grossed P10,427,530 in the box office on its first day of screening, Columbia said.

Directed by Zach Cregger, the filmmaker behind the acclaimed 2025 film "Weapons," the new "Resident Evil" movie serves as a reboot, featuring an all-new story that departs from those of the previous films.

The film follows Austin Abrams' Bryan, a medical courier sent to Raccoon City for a delivery, who unwittingly finds himself in a fight for survival as the city is overrun by infected monsters.
