Rico Blanco jukebox musical ‘Liwanag sa Dilim' reveals cast

'Liwanag sa Dilim,' the six-year-in-the-making original Filipino musical of 9 Works Theatrical, will finally hit the stage on March 7.

MANILA -- "Liwanag sa Dilim," the six-year-in-the-making original Filipino musical of 9 Works Theatrical, will finally hit the stage on March 7.

The new musical will feature songs of Filipino singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist-record producer, and actor-endorser-entrepreneur Rico Blanco with book and direction by Robbie Guevara. 

Over the weekend, 9 Works revealed its stellar cast who will breathe life into the musical’s characters.

The actors who will compose the impressive bevy of talents onstage are (in alphabetical order): Jon Abella, Paji Arceo, Brianna Bunagan, Arnel Carrion, Denzel Chang, Chez Cuenca, Rita Daniela, Boo Gabunada, Neomi Gonzales, Derrick Gozos, Alexa Ilacad, Jasper Jimenez, Vien King, Rica Laguardia, Lani Ligot, Raul Montesa, CJ Navato, Nicole Omillo, Khalil Ramos, Anthony Rosaldo, Lucylle Tan, Mark Tayag, and Iya Villanueva.

Mark Tayag, who was last seen in 9 Works Theatrical and Globe Live's production of Green Day's "American Idiot," is back after eight years.

"It feels [truly[ incredible to be back on stage for 'Liwanag Sa Dilim.' The collaborative process of bringing this original story to life, with Rico Blanco’s powerful compositions, is both exhilarating and humbling. Every production is a fresh opportunity to grow as an artist, and I’m deeply grateful for the chance to do my first love, theater," he said.

Vien King, who appeared on 9 Works Theatrical's reimagined staging of "Tick, Tick... Boom!" in 2023, is also in the cast. 

"I’m very grateful and excited, especially to be doing this with my 9 Works family," he said. "It’s a real blessing to bring Rico Blanco’s iconic songs to life, working alongside such talented actors. What a great way to start 2025."

Khalil Ramos, who also starred in "Tick, Tick… Boom!," Is joining the show.

“Now, a year and a half after my theater debut, I’m thrilled to return to the stage — this time with an incredible ensemble cast who have been such a joy to work with so far,” he said.

Expect songs from the original Rivermaya member that offer a mix of alternative, electronic, pop and progressive rock music.
