Actor and basketball player Lance Carr has suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his left knee after sustaining an injury during the Viva All-Star Games 2026.
Lance was playing for Team Viva One during the event held at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on August 16 when he injured his knee.
Videos shared online showed Lance attempting a shot before landing awkwardly on the court. He immediately appeared to be in pain and was later attended by medical personnel before leaving the game to recover.
A day after the game, Lance took to Instagram to confirm the injury, calling the torn ACL his “greatest fear.”
“My greatest fear,” he wrote. “Every basketball player’s worst nightmare would probably be a torn ACL.”
The injury also led Lance to reflect on his future with the sport, which has been a major part of his life since childhood.
“But with that, there’s a lot of thoughts that come into mind. Will I ever play the same again? Will my passion for the sport that I loved since I was 4 years old change? Will I ever play again?,” he asked himself.
“I know that this is gonna be a tough journey but I will do everything to get back on track and be better than I once was," he added.
According to Cleveland Clinic, the ACL is one of the major ligaments in the knee and connects the thigh bone (femur) to the shin bone (tibia). It helps stabilize the knee and prevents excessive bending or rotation. ACL injuries are particularly common among athletes.
In his post, Lance also apologized to his coaches and teammates for having to leave the game after preparing so long for the event, as well as to fans who traveled to watch them play.
“To all the fandoms, friends and family, I’m sorry for letting you guys down as well. I know yung iba bumyahe pa ng malayo para lang mapanood ako and yung teammates ko. Pasensya po talaga and I promise you guys babawi ako once I’m clear to play again,” he vowed.
Despite the setback, Lance assured everyone that he remains positive as he begins his recovery.
“I just want to thank everyone for the messages and the concern. Rest assured I’m on the positive side and just looking forward to recovering 😊
I love this sport more than anything in the world. I’ll come back stronger.

His post was met with messages of encouragement from friends, fans, and fellow celebrity basketball players.
Kapamilya actor and basketball player Gerald Anderson wrote, “Heads up kaya yan 🙏🏼.”
His fellow Team Viva One player Jairus Aquino also sent his support, writing, “hindi ka namin iiwan bai kasama mo kami sa laban mo na to. love you bai! bounce back stronger! ❤️”
Joseph Marco, another Team Viva One teammate, encouraged Lance to take his recovery one step at a time, writing: “Bro, I know this sucks, especially knowing how much you love the game. But don’t let this break you. Take it one day at a time, focus on getting better, and trust your body to do its thing. It’s a tough road, but we know you’ll get through it. I know you’ll come back even stronger from this. 👊🏽🏀”
Lance's passion for basketball has long been known before his entertainment career. He previously played for the basketball team of Ateneo de Davao University before becoming known to the public as one of the housemates of Pinoy Big Brother Otso, where he earned the moniker “Capteen-Ball Cutie ng Davao.”
