Since entering the entertainment industry, Alden Richards has always been gracious when handling press questions. In fact, whenever he sees showbiz journalists, he recognizes their names, showing his real appreciation for them.

Richards, who won Best Single Performance by an Actor at the 37th Star Awards for TV, graciously gave a media interview after accepting his acting trophy at the VS Hotel in Quezon City last August 24.

When approached by tabloid showbiz journalist Janiz Navida about his reaction to former TV partner Maine Mendoza's statement that she fell in love with him, Richards immediately responded, “Sorry. I don’t want to comment on that issue po. Sorry.”

Richards was seen sporting a mocha-colored suit at the 37th Star Awards for TV, together with his team members Mama Ten and Leysam Sanciangco. In true Richards fashion, he paid respects to other artists before taking his seat.

He was also spotted snapping selfies with fans before leaving the event, which also featured famous stars like Joshua Garcia, Rhian Ramos, Francine Diaz, and Seth Fedelin.

The ever-graceful actor dedicated his award to those suffering from mental health issues, saying that he also suffered from them and that her mother had bipolar disorder.

“This award is not for me. I dedicate this award to those who are experiencing mental health problems. I think mental health is somehow unheard by the society and the reason why I accepted the role is for me to be able to send the message to all the people who are going to be able to watch that series,” he said.

“Ang mental health po ay hindi biro. Hindi siya iniisip lang. Hindi siya gawa-gawa lang ng mga nakaka-experience nito,” he highlighted.

“Me personally was a victim of mental health issues. And growing up, my mom had bipolar depression. So I knew and I know exactly what it feels like and how it is to live in a household na mayroong ganoong klaseng suliranin,” he continued.

“So with this… being an actor, I'm just so proud of my job. Our job comes a lot of responsibility. And we are able to send messages to [people from] different walks of life. Kaya sana, with this award, I dedicate this to all the people who are undergoing something in their lives right now. The hardships, the struggles. Napakahirap pong kalaban ng isip. Napakahirap pong kalaban ng sarili. And I've been there. And I know. So to everyone who's listening to this message, to everyone who has these kinds of problems right now, I hear you, we hear you, and we are here to support and help you,” he spoke in a passionate manner.

He added, “So, para po ito sa lahat ng mga taong dumadanas ng mental health issues and mental health problems.”

He concluded, “Malalampasan din nating lahat ito. And of course, Lord, thank you so much for making me an instrument to send messages and to be of help to the ones in need.“
