Cebuano celebrities and beauty queens expressed concern and called for prayers after a magnitude 6.9 earthquake struck Cebu, affecting residents across the province and the Visayas region.
Miss Universe Philippines 2019 Gazini Ganados and Miss Universe Philippines 2021 Beatrice Luigi Gomez were among the first to post on social media following the quake. Gomez urged vigilance against aftershocks, saying: “Watch out for aftershocks… Pag-amping intawn sa mga naa sa Cebu karon.”
Cebu quake likely triggered by fault relatively steady in the past 400 years
The Miss Universe Philippines Organization issued a statement of solidarity, extending sympathy to affected communities.
“Our hearts are with the communities, especially our Cebuano partners, delegates, and their families, who are navigating the aftermath of this natural disaster,” the group said.
The organization noted the resilience of Filipinos, stressing that “by working together in the spirit of bayanihan, you will emerge stronger from this challenge.”
Cebu-based actress Kaye Abad assured her followers that her family was unharmed.
“To my friends who are asking kung kamusta kami, we are ok. Me and the kids are in Manila. My family in Cebu are ok,” she said.
Actress Kim Chiu, who was shooting a project at the time of the quake, shared a lighthearted post with a groufie, writing: “Medyo blurred lang, may aftershock pa ata tong phone ko sa lindol.”
