Timothy A. Clary, AFP.MANILA — Heartbreak ended Alex Eala’s 2026 US Open campaign, but the Filipina tennis sensation’s journey rolls on with a busy road ahead.
Following her 5-7, 6-3, 5-7 loss to Iva Jovic in the third round of the New York tournament on Sunday (Manila time), Eala now shifts her focus to the WTA 500 Singapore Open, which runs from September 21 to 27.
Tough competition awaits the 21-year-old in Singapore, where the likes of World No. 3 Jessica Pegula, Donna Vekic, and Amanda Anisimova are also expected to compete.
Next up is the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, where Eala will look to finally claim her first-ever gold medal in the tournament.

“I love playing and competing with the Philippine team,” said Eala, who will skip the WTA 1000 China Open to represent flag and country.
Eala previously ruled the 2025 Southeast Asian Games last December, and she hopes to replicate that feat at the Asiad.
“I think it's a really fun environment, and I love being with the team, especially this last SEA Games in December. I just found myself drawn to competing on that side,” she added.
The tennis events of the Asian Games will begin on September 27.
