Alex Eala returns to the Philippines, January 21, 2026. Philippine Women's Open/FacebookMANILA (UPDATED) — Filipina tennis star Alex Eala will be participating in the Philippine Women's Open, tournament organizers announced Wednesday night.
Eala, who was coming from a landmark debut in the Australian Open, confirmed that she will be taking part in the WTA 125 tourney as soon as she landed in Manila.
"Yes, I will be playing next week. I'm looking forward to it and I hope people can show up and support the Pinays," Eala said upon her arrival at NAIA Terminal 3. "It's a huge milestone in Philippine tennis, and I think its a big deal for all of us Filipina tennis players."

Eala was awarded a wildcard entry by the PWO organizers, securing her spot in the inaugural tourney.
During her Australian swing, the 20-year-old netter also won the Evonne Goolagong Cawley Trophy in Kooyong Classic.
The Philippine Women's Open takes place newly-refurbished Rizal Memorial Tennis Center from January 26-31.
Eala was accompanied by her parents, Mike and Rizza, and coach Joan Bosch.
PHILTA Secretary General John Rey Tiangco, who is also part of the tournament's organizing committee, was among those who welcomed Eala upon her arrival.
