MANILA — Elias and Ifeoma Adili, the parents of the late Ateneo student-athlete Divine Adili, arrived in the Philippines on Sunday evening.
The couple's flight from Nigeria landed at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 shortly after 10:00 p.m.
"We had a very good flight, very calm. It was okay," said Ifeoma.
Ateneo earlier said that Mr. and Mrs. Adili are expected to spend time with the Ateneo community and the men's basketball team. They are set to watch the Blue Eagles' first two games in the UAAP Season 89 men's basketball tournament.
Divine and incoming rookie Rene Baterbonia died in a drowning incident during the Blue Eagles' team-building activity in Aurora in June.
"We are deeply grateful for the opportunity to have them with us and to spend time together in the days ahead," Ateneo said in a statement.
Mr. and Mrs. Adili also expressed hope that their first visit to the Philippines would be meaningful.
Ateneo said it is dedicating its participation in the UAAP season to the memory of Divine and Baterbonia.
"As the team begins a season dedicated to the memory of Divine and Rene Baterbonia, we are grateful that Divine's parents can be here with the teammates, friends, and community who shared an important part of his life," the university said.
