MANILA — "Poorest" Filipinos are the most satisfied with their local district representatives, according to a survey conducted by Octa Research.
Based on survey results, 64% of Filipinos agreed that their sitting district representative is "doing a good job" in the House of Representatives, 27% disagreed, while 9% say they do not know or cannot say.
By socioeconomic class, 72% of those in Class E or the "poorest" said that their local district representative is "doing a good job." It is 61% in Class ABC and 63% in Class D.
Octa Research President Ranjit Rye explained the percentage is highest in Class E as they are those who benefit from government projects.
"'Yung class na 'yun [du'n] mas nakatutok 'yung initiatives and programs ng mga congressional districts natin. It's really trying to help the poor, the vulnerable, and those who are exposed to all types of challenges, lalo na itong inclement weather," Rye explained on state television PTV's Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon on Tuesday.
"There are very little programs for the very rich in our society, kasi they don't need it naman," he continued.
The survey likewise noted that Filipinos favor their district representatives more than the House of Representatives as an institution.
The trust rating for the House of Representatives is 38% while the positive performance rating is 37%.
The Octa Research survey was conducted among 1,200 adult Filipinos from July 4 to 11. It has a ±3% margin of error at a 95% confidence level.
